Street artist Swoon grew up in Daytona Beach, Florida but moved to New York at age nineteen, following her creative aspirations. She studied painting at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and inspired by her surroundings began to put up posters and stickers on city walls and billboards, altering existing advertising in an act of ‘brandalism’.
This lead to her specialising in life-size wheatpaste prints and paper cutouts of ordinary people that she observes in her everyday life. By pasting them onto the walls of the city Swoon seeks to highlight the human element of urban living. As well as appearing in cities all over the world, Swoon’s art is found in the permanent collections of the Tate, MOMA and the Brooklyn Museum.
