Charnwood Lodge, Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust Reserve, Charnwood, Leicestershire in autumn on a sunny day.
The birch trees were bathed in sunlight as they were changing in colour from greens to autumnal hues. This painting was from a walk with friends who engaged intensively with art and nature. We have looked together at the landscape and even sketched and painted it together in situ, producing and comparing our sketches and studies. The intensity involved in looking and recording the birch trees on the edge of the pathway, as well as the journey along the woodland and discussions were the focus of this series.

Inspiration and subject matter for Miranda Brookes’ current work reflect the British landscape tradition, especially the watercolours of Turner, Cotman and Constable; their landscape and seascapes. Her local environment of Charnwood has proved to be a significant source for her work and echoes deeper concerns for our natural environment generally.
