Driftwood, mixed media assemblage.
'Usually seen in the South Atlantic, for the 3rd year in succession an individual has been wandering over Bempton Cliffs, Yorkshire, presumably looking for a mate. April 26th 2021- Following seven landlocked mouths we head West. Just as our first days beach-camping was ending... eureka! A fabulous, large, bleached bird body lay, fresh from the high-tide. In the studio, my "oddities" tray included a large, black plastic beach which I put together with an abstract head. Both were in scale with my latest find, and my black-brewed mollymawk was hatched. (PS I had casually placed my straw hat on the bird's head. When Jay saw it he said, "That looks so right, leave it as it is.)

Sid Burnard was born in Brighton in 1948. Introduced to the art of beachcombing by his Romany grandmother, Sid learnt to appreciate the beauty of nature from an early age. His time at Bristol Guild of Applied Arts gave him a profound understanding of visual arts and crafts and allowed him to put his personal vision into practice.He is now based in Borth near Aberystwyth in Wales, where the flotsam and jetsam from the nearby sea is his only source of materials. Working with found objects, nothing is changed - simply introduced to one another. His driftwood pieces, usually birds, boats or mythical beasts, are full of his passion, integrity and wonderful humour.
