Etching with aquatint, aside from the main edition of 30.

Stamped signature and Kelpra blind-stamp bottom right.

The Welsh Portfolio is a suite of ten etchings and aquatints. The images were drawn directly onto copper by Gordon House, proofed and editioned from steel faced copper plates. Etched, aquatinted and editioned in collaboration with and by Nigel Oxley, Master Printer, Kelpra Studio.
Gordon House PortraitHouse was born in South Wales in 1932 and studied at Luton and St. Albans Schools of Art. During the 1950s he worked for an advertising agency and it wasn’t until 1961 that he was able to pursue his artistic career, supporting himself by part-time teaching. His client base was extremely diverse; besides the leading London galleries, it included the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Ashmolean Gallery.

The Tate Gallery holds more than 100 of his prints and his work is also represented in many important public collections including the Arts Council, the British Council, the Victoria & Albert Museum and the M.O.M.A. in New York. In 2004 House died and his autobiographical memoir Tin-pan Valley was published posthumously. The following year a major retrospective was held at the Millinery Works.
