The art magazine Kündung ranks among the most ambitious projects of German Expressionism, combining striking imagery with hand-cut typography. The quality of the impressions and an extraordinarily low print run of just 200 made Kündung the foremost publication of its kind.

It heralded a new age of Expressionist art and aimed to reinvigorate contemporary culture through a fusion of the figurative and the abstract. Having premiered in January of 1921, it ran for just twelve issues. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of these extraordinary prints.
Karl Opfermann PortraitKarl Opfermann was born in Denmark in 1891. He studied at the School of Applied Arts in Flensburg until 1913 and then continued his studies at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg. He was a member of the Hamburg Secession group, one of many groups formed during the German Expressionist movement. German Expressionism was borne on a wave of resistance and reaction. At its core it was concerned with emotion and the individual experience.

He died in 1960. His works are held in collections throughout Germany, including his previous places of study in Hamburg and Flensburg.
