Original signed woodcut from an edition of 150.
Mathéy made this remarkable series of woodcuts in 1921 and would perhaps be much better known had he not moved into design and illustration.
A copy of Adam and Eve is held in the National Gallery of Art, Washington, US.

Mathéy trained as architect in Budapest. From 1919 to 1928 he worked at the Leipzig State Academy of Graphic Arts and Printing. He made his name as an illustrator for numerous books and magazines; he also designed stamps, textiles and a Rosenthal coffee service.
