We have just discovered a small number of the most sought-after of the 1940s School Prints,
Punch and Judy by LS Lowry. We have come across very few over the years and never before in mint condition. These are immaculate.
Punch and Judy is typical of his work, showing ordinary people going about their lives, symbols of
'la danse de vie'. He said of his use of colour, 'I am a simple man and I use simple materials: ivory, black, vermillion, prussian blue, yellow ochre, flake white - and no medium.' His proved to be a very popular print. (1979, Julian Spalding,
Lowry, Phaidon.)
Please note, framing is not included in this price.

Born in Stretford in 1887, L. S. Lowry is best known for images of 'match-stick' men and 'match-stick' cats and dogs set against the backdrop of industrial northern England, found in works such as 'Coming Home from the Mill' and 'The Organ Grinder'.
L. S. Lowry is known for depicting these urban landscapes in his art work, images of factory walls, belching chimneys, looming mills, the streets below teeming with figures, moving in waves towards, or away from, mill gateways, mines, football matches, and political meetings. Classic images of the North of England in years gone by, beautifully executed in stunning colours and an expert hand in beautiful art works.
