Born in Leicester in 1943, Grahame Wheatley was eventually to study at the city’s Polytechnic, emerging with a first class degree in Fine Art in the late 1970s. Although the influence of his hero, Stanley Spencer, is evident in his work, Wheatley’s style gives a nod to other painters while remaining truly unique to him.
He was a scenic artist for the BBC at its Pebble Mill Studios in Birmingham from 1980-3 and in 1984 was elected a member of the Leicester Society of Artists. His work is held in a number of public collections and he has received commissions from The Dorchester Hotel, London and The Oriental Hotel, Singapore amongst others.
