Outwoods, Charnwood, Leicestershire in spring on a grey day.
The Outwoods are mainly native trees where the public can wander for miles along a network of footpaths. The woods change significantly throughout the year as the undergrowth and leaves dominate or recede. The contrasts between the rich undergrowth and the skeleton trees against the grey sky provided different areas of extensive detail.

Inspiration and subject matter for Miranda Brookes’ current work reflect the British landscape tradition, especially the watercolours of Turner, Cotman and Constable; their landscape and seascapes. Her local environment of Charnwood has proved to be a significant source for her work and echoes deeper concerns for our natural environment generally.
