'This is obviously a piece that makes a point about how we project meaning onto objects; but the Construction tries to be as much about the nature of the trunk of wood, the different lichens, and the box, as it is about the image you project onto it.' - SVW

Vaughan-Winter was born in London in 1953. He studied at Stourbridge College of Art, followed by a year at St.Martin’s School of Art, after which he was appointed a lecturer there. Vaughan Winter was also a visiting lecturer at the Chelsea School of Art, Royal College of Art, and Royal Academy Schools. He became Arts Editor for the London Evening news in 1979, undertaking freelance work alongside.
During the ‘90s VaughanWinter concentrated on his two businesses: the first, manufacturing pewter miniatures, the second, an antique emporium. By the end of the decade he decided to work full-time making art and so began his surreal and extraordinary constructions. The work is exquisitely composed, delicate, often disturbing. It can be by turns quirky, intellectually provocative and nostalgic.
