Etchings by William Bell Scott, after William Blake.
Initialled in the plate.

Though William Blake is now regarded as a seminal literary figure of the Romantic period, his work as a painter and printmaker was of equal (if not greater) quality and importance, revealing the mysticism which informs so much of his work as a poet. From an early age William drew and engraved copies of drawings by Raphael and Michelangelo, the combination of biblical imagery and classical technique providing Blake the artistic style for which he would become so well known.
