The art magazine Kündung ranks among the most ambitious projects of German Expressionism, combining striking imagery with hand-cut typography. The quality of the impressions and an extraordinarily low print run of just 200 made Kündung the foremost publication of its kind.

It heralded a new age of Expressionist art and aimed to reinvigorate contemporary culture through a fusion of the figurative and the abstract. Having premiered in January of 1921, it ran for just twelve issues. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of these extraordinary prints.
Lasar Segall PortraitLasar Segall was born in the Jewish community of Vilnius, the Capital of Lithuania in 1891. In 1906 he moved to Berlin to study at the Prussian Academy of Arts, later moving to Dresden in 1910 to continue his studies at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts. He spent almost the next fifteen years travelling between Germany and Brazil, living in São Paulo, Dresden and Berlin. His visits to Brazil transformed his work, provoking him to explore Expressionism; consequently, he co-founded the 'Dresdner Sezession’ group in 1919, with contemporary Otto Dix.

In 1923 he moved to Brazil and eventually became a naturalised citizen; his work was extremely influential across the country. During his life his work was exhibited internationally, with solo-exhibitions in New York and throughout Brazil and Germany. Retrospectives of his work were exhibited at the National Museum of Fine Arts, Rio de Janeiro and the Museum of Modern Art, Paris. He died in 1957 in his home, which is now the site of the Lasar Segall Museum.
