Imagine having played in a low-tide rockpool and investigated all the creatures and features, one might have built a sandcastle.  Called for picnic lunch, the little spade is stuck into the nearest spot.  Whilst enjoying your sandwiches and lemonade, a little bird might use the perch you’ve left.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\nThe yellow marine ply with white over it could be an incoming tide surf, melted plastic over pebbles provides a substantial base for the chair leg, which has been partly gnawed by a dog.  I like to use parts of tools, so the plastic handle made a practical perch for the bird, a small wader perhaps.  Cannibalising bits of tools uses the same philosophy as the shedmaker.  Everything and anything can be used.  No rules, nothing need be wasted.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\nThe pink and white marine ply base was selected simply because it suited the tiny shovel. Rust appearing gives an orange-pink combination, highly unlikely! With only the shaft of the tool left, it needed a very small bird.  Two different woods, the knot on the head gives two different personalities.  All items in this piece were collected after two or three summers, after families have holidayed. Fortunately I didn't dismiss it and went to confirm the sighting.  \"Wow, a log-cabin\", I exclaimed aloud to myself.  Its maximum circumference was 48\" and it stood 14\" tall.  Having just washed up, it was extremely heavy and I had about 3\/4 mile to carry it.  At least I had a breakwater to rest it on every 100yds.  That was several years ago. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e   Only last winter, a forestry worker saw the piece and explained that my log-cabin was the result of an axe-race, whereby axemen challenge each other to chop a log in as quick a time as possible.  He thought it had come from abroad as the diameter was greater than material used in the UK.  It was also pointed out that the axe-blade had a small chip out of it, resulting in the thin vertical stripes on the roof.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e  The little bird is for Topol, who inspired the title. However, even I managed this one! \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The beautiful log body had an abstract bird shape as it sat, marooned on the pebbles one morning.  It had endured a very long voyage, as shown by the wear and plant life that had started to live on it.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e  It hadn't been in the studio long before I started offering different heads to it.  This is the most ridiculous one and has that suggestion of orange, so it had to be used.  Strengthening that theme, the pathetic little sprouting of tail-feathers gave balance.  In the box of nets and ropes was some black and orange, a perfect  vest.  The square section of log block set the compostition in appropriate fashion.
