Punch'ong. Forest

Lee decorates his pots using the traditional Korean method of Punch'ŏng. A dark stoneware body is coated with white slip & decorated using various methods. Here a first coat of white slip was applied roughly, then whilst still wet Lee used his hands to spread it over the piece. The pot was then incised with a tool, to give the impression of a forest. Sometimes different coloured slips are flicked over the white surface, in a Jackson Pollack like way. Forest, waterfall, mountains - nature is very much in evidence in Lee's beautiful pots.
