  • Artist - Willi Titze - Biography
Willi Titze was born in Hamburg in 1890. Whilst he travelled extensively throughout Europe and North Africa, Hamburg remained his home throughout his life, studying at the School of Applied Arts from 1908-1912. He taught at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg from 1927 but was dismissed under the Nazi regime in 1934. From 1932 he was a member of the Hamburg Secession, one of many groups formed during the German Expressionist movement. German Expressionism was borne on a wave of resistance and reaction. At its core it was concerned with emotion and the individual experience. After the war he was reappointed as Head of Graphic Arts at the University in Hamburg. During his lifetime his work was exhibited throughout Germany and on occasion in America. His works are held by the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
