Given by Robert Colquhoun to longtime friend Christine MacAusland. The drawings can be dated precisely as they were accompanied by a letter placing them in Museum Street, London.
Towards the end of his life he and MacBryde were living in accommodation above the then Museum Street Gallery. They had been given this space by the two owners Fred Reid and Bobby Katz, also booksellers.
Christine MacAusland befriended the 2 Roberts after running away to London, Soho as a teenager. She being a painter, acquainted herself with the Soho art set, Bacon, Freud et al and her Scottish roots brought about an immediate connection with the two Roberts.
Her lifelong friendship meant she attended Robert Colquhoun’s funeral in 1962.
