Collection: Karl Opfermann   1891 - 1960 

Karl Opfermann was born in Denmark in 1891. He studied at the School of Applied Arts in Flensburg until 1913 and then continued his studies at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg. He was a member of the Hamburg Secession group, one of many groups formed during the German Expressionist movement. German Expressionism was borne on a wave of resistance and reaction. At its core it was concerned with emotion and the individual experience. He died in 1960. His works are held in collections throughout Germany, including his previous places of study in Hamburg and Flensburg.
