  • Artist - Peter Blake - Biography
Sir Peter Blake, born in 1932 in Kent, was one of Britain’s first pioneers of the Pop Art movement whose emergence in the art world coincided with the birth of the ‘swinging sixties’. A contemporary of David Hockney and R. B. Kitaj, it was his design for Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in 1967 which first propelled him beyond the world of art critics and well into the public eye.
Central to his paintings are his interest in images from popular culture which have infused his collages. In 2002 he was knighted at Buckingham Palace for his services to art.
