Yellow Booted Dumbstruck,
He is now based in Borth near Aberystwyth in Wales, where the flotsam and jetsam from the nearby sea is his only source of materials. Working with found objects, nothing is changed - simply introduced to one another. His driftwood pieces, usually birds, boats or mythical beasts, are full of his passion, integrity and wonderful humour.
A couple of years ago, Louis ran excitedly from the top of the pebbles, with the yellow plastic remains of a child’s sand-rake. “Look Sid. Buzzards feet”! He was quite right. Buzzards’ feet are bright yellow, and his idea slowly brought this composition to completion. There wasn’t an appropriate body in the studio, so the legs sat in their box and patiently waited. On the 30th Dec., 2011, we were staying in Penzance before going to Tresco for New Year. It was cold, wet and windy as Jo and I beach-combed along Mounts Bay towards Newlyn Harbour. The beach ended and I suggested we climb the steps and call it a day. Jo declined and carried on over difficult, slippery rocks and an incoming tide. This is a classic example of Jo’s enthusiasm and indefatigable energy. Thus against all the odds, the body for this piece of work appeared, edged in the rocks forming the entrance to Newlyn. I think it’s Scotch Pine. Wonderfully shaped. Full of character. It immediately asked for yellow feet! By now we had the large, strong, purple base, one of three found about four years ago. We had two thirds of a bird. What would make an ideal head. Wood seemed an easy option, so that was out of the question. Let’s see what happens, I thought. On a walk down to the dunes, on a stretch where we don’t often find anything, there was just the right piece. I think its half of a pair of secateurs, or possibly a glass cutter. Whatever it is, it made an ideal head. What a character. A real family effort. Feet by Louis, body by Jo, head by Sid!

Goldmark have the most astonishing range, from the very affordable to the upper echelons of the market. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and really helpful. For anyone wanting to start a serious art collection within whatever budget this could be the best place to start.
There is no other gallery like Goldmark. I'm always amazed at both the stock they hold and their ability to regularly source really quite special pieces of art. That, with their friendly, knowledgeable & utterly unpretentious style makes them a delight to visit & to buy from.
Their delivery service is 100% reliable and the breadth of work displayed on their website pretty amazing. Above all, unlike other such dealers, I have never been under any pressure to buy. I recommend you give them a try.
We first visited Goldmark approximately 6 years ago and immediately liked the informality compared to previous gallery experiences. It’s a great place to start or build on your collection. Everyone at Goldmark is very friendly, knowledgeable and will give you as much or as little time as you wish.
Great pots, exquisitely displayed, expertly packed and shipped all over the world! The storytelling about potters and their methods has been extremely helpful, Goldmark is fabulous!
Always friendly and helpful staff with an amazing ever changing gallery of wonderful art and studio pottery! Would highly recommend a visit!
We have bought prints and pots from Goldmark over many years and our house is the richer for the collections we have built up. The framing and delivery service are faultless.
Their exhibitions are always prepared with great care, with videos and catalogs accompanying the shows. I have not been able to visit the gallery in person but all the Goldmark team is splendid and highly professional, which makes the virtual shopping a great experience.
