Sometimes the word 'gallery' simply isn't enough. Yes, it's the core of a business dedicated to the best in painting, printmaking, sculpture and ceramics. But here the books turn into paintings, the paintings turn into films. Watch our short film to find out a bit more about us and what we do.
Houses on the River, c1920
Philip Connard (1875 – 1958), painter and teacher born in Southport, Lancashire in 1875, first worked as a house painter and studied art part time until he won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art.
Following this study he received a British Institution prize and travelled to Paris, before returning to London to teach at Lambeth School of Art and work as an illustrator.
Connard was one of the founding members of National Portrait Society and presented solo exhibitions at Leicester Galleries and at Barbizon House. During World War I he was an Official War Artist to the Royal Navy and was elected to the RA in 1925 and Keeper from 1945 to 1949.
Connard rose from humble origins to become an eminent artist in oils and watercolours whose commissions brought him royal recognition.
His work can be seen in the collections of the IWM, Tate, The National Portrait Gallery and the British Council.
