Sometimes the word 'gallery' simply isn't enough. Yes, it's the core of a business dedicated to the best in painting, printmaking, sculpture and ceramics. But here the books turn into paintings, the paintings turn into films. Watch our short film to find out a bit more about us and what we do.
The Loss of Gaelic, 1991

Will Maclean MBE is a Scottish artist and professor of art. Born in Inverness in 1941, he was a midshipman on HMS Conway at Anglesey in Wales before attending Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen (1961–65) and then the British School at Rome (1966) as part of a year on a Scottish Education Department Travelling Scholarship.
The critic and writer Duncan Macmillan writes in his introduction to the monograph on Maclean, Symbols of Survival: Will Maclean is one of the outstanding artists of his generation in Scotland... his art is rooted in his knowledge of the highlands, the Highland people and their history and in his own early associations with sailors and the sea. This makes it relevant and immediately accessible, yet it remains uncompromisingly modern in its forms and concerns.
A Night of Islands, a suite of 10 colour etchings with text.
Signed.
Edition of 40. Signed, numbered and titled verso.
‘Sioldadh no Gaidhlige’, a poem by Meg Bateman, was the inspiration for this etching. The poem deals with the decline of the language and culture of the Gael with the imagery of a fraying anchor rope. Will Maclean’s dark mournful etching, with half-present figures and obscured symbols conveys this dreadful loss. However, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon as a shaft of light illuminates the Highland landscape.
