Driftwood, mixed media assemblage.
Mike had once remarked on how much longer I'd be able to bend down and pick things up from the beach, let alone carry them home.
I set myself a challenge.
The base, water-logged, washed up one morning tide. I struggled to lift it, let alone carry it up over banked up pebbles for assessment. Some years before, the magnificent bird's body was found deep in the hinterland of Cors Fochno, the rare raised bog, created over thousands of years since the last ice age.
In my store lay just the right scale head to complete the composition. (I often wonder how on earth I will manage to carry it into the Gallery).

Sid Burnard was born in Brighton in 1948. Introduced to the art of beachcombing by his Romany grandmother, Sid learnt to appreciate the beauty of nature from an early age. His time at Bristol Guild of Applied Arts gave him a profound understanding of visual arts and crafts and allowed him to put his personal vision into practice.He is now based in Borth near Aberystwyth in Wales, where the flotsam and jetsam from the nearby sea is his only source of materials. Working with found objects, nothing is changed - simply introduced to one another. His driftwood pieces, usually birds, boats or mythical beasts, are full of his passion, integrity and wonderful humour.
